Yuan is the Kampala, Uganda Bureau Chief for China's most influential media outlet. The bureau's beat covers the entire Sub-Saharan region.
Yuan, who has been working in Africa for more than four years, also founded African Business Insight (ABI) in 2014, an independent media source, publishing daily reports and analysis through various social media platforms, delivering information on African business to Chinese readers via mobile phone.
In just six months, ABI amassed millions of readers, becoming the most influential African business media outlet in China. ABI has also received recognition from global media, government agencies and academic institutions, including Bloomberg Business Week, Peking University and various top level Chinese government departments such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Commerce.
ABI has grown as social media platform as well, with more than 5,000 core members from China’s business and academic communities. It is also evolving as a fundraising platform, so far introducing nearly US$200 million worth of African opportunities to Asian investors.
Yuan is the co-author of “Say Goodbye to The Tower of Babel, When China meets Africa,” a ground-breaking book on cultural relations between China and Africa, which has won wide media coverage in China.
Mr. Yuan graduated from Communication University of China with an MA in Global Communication.
